wonderful color palette...but between the fading painting of the woman, the car peeking around the building, the criss-cross of the wires over the clouds, there is something quietly menacing (perhaps too strong a word) in the air.
When I first looked at this, my thoughts were of the wonderful Carolina light, the quietness of the day. Then I came back to the image and noticed the faded woman. It is interesting to me that an image can have quite different 'readings' within a short period of time with a couple of different viewings. Would I have come to the second reading if I had just looked at the image for a bit longer the first time? Curious.
Lyle, I think the "regional light" was at play here, it was bright, but lots of clouds in the sky so there was sun and shadow, but lots of bounce light from the clouds to open the shadows. There's something strange about the woman. I also wonder whether this is a genuine old advertisement or something more recent done in a retro style. I lean toward the second.
